Description:   A suburb about 1 km SW by W of Avalon and about 4km N by E of Mona Vale on elevated ground about 1500 m W of Bilgola Head. Boundaries shown on map GNB4094-1
Origin:   Said to be from the Aboriginal bulgola or belgoula, meaning a pretty beach with steep slopes, studded with cabbage palms. (Sydney Suburbs, K Anderson, 1989).
History:   Also, Robert Henderson named his 40 ha grant Belgooler in the 1820's and over the years the name was simplified. The area was also known as Mad Micks Hollow and Dalleys Beach.
