Meaning:   Dead Tree on Mountain, (or dead wood). (The Australian Museum list by Thorpe). Also: where fish breed (Mrs M.J.Caine.RAHS Vol.8.Suppl.1).
Origin:   Aboriginal. For: dead tree on mountain top. (McCarthy. 1963). Also: Formerly Kamilaroi Aboriginal land and name is Kamilaroi in origin but of uncertain meaning. (Appleton. 1992).
History:   Establishment of township in 1856.
