Description:   Rises about 32 km S.W of Barraba, and flows North, and then East, to the town of Barraba. It then flows in a southerly direction, West of the Barraba Manilla railway line, to its junction with the Namoi River at Manilla. Its total length is about 1.3 km.
Origin:   aboriginal words: manilla, maneela, muneela- meaning is 'winding river or 'round about'. Reference: J. Tyrrell, F.D. McCarthy, A. E. Martin.
History:   Manilla. 'A river of N.S.W., in the district of Liverpool Plains. McKind's house of accommodation is situated here, 50 miles from Tamworth'. (Wells. Gaz. p.251).
