Description:   The largest town in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area about 81 km NW of Narrandera. It was designed by Walter Burley Griffin, the American architect who designed Canberra. Boundaries within Griffith Council area shown on map GNB3824.
Origin:   The town was named after Arthur Griffith, the Minister of Public Works who in 1912, opened the Burrinjuck Dam, one of the major sources of irrigation water for the area. (Kennedy `Australian Place Names` 1992)
