Description:   A town about 8 km WNW of Eringanerin and about 9 km SE by S of Kamber. Boundaries determined 18 Sep 1992 as per GNB3076.
Meaning:   Derived from Wiradhuri and Kamilaroi 'gilgai' for waterhole, with suffix 'dra' for 'with'. This has sometimes been translated as 'long waterhole' and may be related to fact that town stands on Castlereagh River. (Appleton; 1992).
Origin:   Aboriginal. Also: form 'Kalagandra' for 'long waterhole'. (McCarthy; 1963).
