Description:   Town on the Pacific Highway about 15 km S by E of Mullumbimby.
Origin:   Aboriginal: from bangalla, a low hill; a kind of palm tree. (Reed 1967) Also: The Bundjalung word for the Bangalow palm is 'bigibin' often seen as 'piccabeen'. Bangalow is not a local Aboriginal word. (Richmond-Tweed Regional Library,1984).
History:   Stands on Bundjalung Aboriginal land. Earlier known as Byron Creek - the Postal Dept. invited suggestions from residents for a new name, B- angalow for palms growing in area. (Richmond Tweed Reg. Lib. 1964).
