Meaning:   A name of Scottish origin reported to have been bestowed after a place in Northern Ireland. Also from Aboriginal 'Gauri' for 'down of the eagle-hawk'. (McCarthy; 1963).
Origin:   Mr. H.E. Whitten acquired a grazing property here about 1870-71 and named it 'Gowrie'. GOWIE - So named after it's Scottish counterpart in Perthshire P. 60. (Infor. from on Australian Place Names, J.S. Ryan)
