Origin:   It is probable that the name chosen for the Parish of Alexandria in 1835, and the Municipality of Alexandria in 1868, commemorates the defeat by the British expeditionary corps under Sir Ralph Abercromby, of Napoleon's Egyptian Expedition of 1798, at the Battle of Alexandria fought on the 21 March 1801.
