Description:   A major watercourse about 380 km long commencing at the junction of Rocky River and Boorolong Creek near Uralla and flowing generally NW and W near the towns of Bundarra, Bingara and Gravesend and passing about 3km N of the town of Moree. Thence flowing generally W by the channel to the S of the feature known as Gwydir Raft and then flowing generally WNW for about 35km to Allambie Bridge. Thence flowing by a watercourse, indefinite in places, generally W and WSW to join the Barwon River about 13km NE of the town of Collarenebri.
Origin:   Named after Lord Gwydir by Alan Cunningham in 1827. (Ref Papers on Australian Place Names, J.S. Ryan, 1963, Page 55.) The native name `Guida' is said to mean 'a river with red banks'.
