Description:   A dam located on the Macquarie River just below its junction with the Cudgegong 30 km upstream of Wellington and about 8 km from Mumbil, which retains the waters of Lake Burrendong.
Meaning:   Burrendong = Koala (Endacott 1955)
Origin:   Aboriginal.
History:   The dam was proposed immediately after WWII as a means of improving water supplies and boosting agricultural production. Construction commenced in 1946 and was completed in 1967. (Maj.Rur.Dams., L&WC).
