Description:   A lands administrative division.
Origin:   Aboriginal. Corowa or Currawa is the curra pine which yielded gum used by Aborigines to fasten the heads of spears to the shafts. Another translation is rocky river. A W Reed: Placenames of NSW; their names and meanings 1969
History:   Early river port. Gazetted as the town of CAROWA on 4 February 1859. A meeting held at Corowa in 1893 is regarded to have been the catalyst for the merging of the colonies (federation).
