Description:   Rises 4 km south of the locality of Sassafras. It flows generally south, draining the eastern slopes of Budawang Range, for about 72 km by the villages of Brooman and Nelligen and town of Bateman's Bay, near its mouth, into the Tasman Sea.
Origin:   So named by Lt. R. Johnston P. 23 (Information from Shoalhaven - W.A. Bayley)
History:   Named after the Scottish River of the same name by Lieut. Robert Johnston who sailed in it during 1821 while searching for Capt.Stewart and his party. (500 names of Shoalhaven, Shoalhaven Tourist Board).
