| Origin: | INVERELL Named after Alexander Campbell's Station Inverell which he settled in 1836. Named said to be of Gaelic Origin 'Inver' meeting place 'Ell' a swan. Town first called - Byron (Gov. Gaz. 8.6. 1858) Possibly after Lord Byron the Poet whose poems were Popular at that time. Native name of locality said to be Gree Gree. |
